Target Adjustments

Target adjustments allow Colorado building owners to request modified performance targets when the standard energy or emissions requirements are not technically or financially feasible for their specific building. Regulators review documented constraints and set an alternative, individualized target that still ensures meaningful progress toward compliance.

How are Energy Use Intensity (EUI) Targets Adjusted?

EUI Targets are adjusted through a few different processes, but most require third-party data verification, an online application, benchmarking data resubmission, and supporting documents. Compliance Expert LLC can advise on the best adjustments for your building type.

Building Type Target

There are over 70 Building Type Targets that were assigned to buildings based on 2022 Benchmarking submittals. Your building may have multiple use types and fine tuning this may adjust your EUI target favorably.

Standard Adjustments

Many building types can benefit from standard target adjustments. Do the buildings have longer operating hours, heated pools, parking, data centers, EV charging stations, or more than three property types?

Adaptive Reuse

Was your building previously a different building type? Was your new multi-family building previously an office space? Building targets EUIs are adjusted by 17 points for adaptive reuse.

Custom Target Adjustments

Historical and Unique buildings can apply for a custom target that is 30% lower than their baseline. These are aquariums, convention centers, ice rinks, indoor arenas, museum, transportation stations, zoos, or other unique buildings. Compliance Expert LLC can help with the required plans and Level 2 assessments needed for these situations.
