Benchmarking has been a requirement in CO since 2021 through House Bill 21-1286.
Commercial and Multifamily buildings 25,000 sq ft and over must submit their benchmarking through the Energize Denver portal between May1 and Sept 1st. Penalties of $2000 for each violation can be imposed. Third Party Data Verification is needed in either 2025 or 2026, but ideally the data is verified earlier to accurately start on a compliance plan.
Buildings 50,000 sq ft and over must comply with benchmarking and performance ordinances for the State of CO. Benchmarking must by submitted by June 1st with a $100 fee. Penalties of $500 for the first violation and $2000 for the subsequent violations can be imposed

Contact us for steps on how to get aggregated data for buildings with multiple tenets and meters. Gas transport accounts will still need to be manually uploaded, but the savings is worth it.

Effective May 1st, building owners must create an Account in the Energize Denver Management Portal. This is now used to submit yearly benchmarking data as well as submit any forms to City of Denver, such as timeline extensions, target adjustments, etc.
For the Building Performance Colorado ordinance. The BEAM Platform is used to submit yearly benchmarking and pay the $100 annual fee.
